NBA executive believes drafting Bronny James could be the key to luring LeBron

Ever since Bronny James declared for the 2024 NBA draft last month, there has been a heightened interest in which team might pick the guard. This is because many believe that with Bronny, a team can also lure in his father, LeBron James, who has a player option this summer.

LeBron has expressed his desire to play with his son in the NBA, and teams might be ready to do anything to help him realize the dream. An unnamed NBA executive spoke of the possibility to HoopsHype.

“You have to have the conversation internally, especially if you’re a team in the West because if you can improve your chances of landing LeBron, it could significantly improve your chances,” he said.

Despite the speculations, Bronny has dismissed the possibility of this happening. During his media availability at the NBA draft combine in Chicago earlier this month, the elder James brother said

“I feel like this is a serious business, and I don’t feel like there would be a thought of, ‘I’m just drafting this kid just because I’m going to get his dad.' I don’t think a GM would really allow that. I think I’ve put in the work, and I’d get drafted because of not only the player but the person that I am.”

Bronny James drops hints about his new home in the NBA

During his appearance on FanDuel's "Run it Back" show on Tuesday, NBA insider Shams Charania reported a huge development in Bronny James' draft process. The guard is said to have received workout invites from 10 teams but will only accept two: the Phoenix Suns and the LA Lakers. Many believe this hints at where he will land during the draft in June.

"Bronny James has over 10 workout invites during the predraft process, but I’m told he’s only going to visit a couple of those, and that’s going to include the Lakers and the Phoenix Suns," Charania reported.
"The Suns have the No. 22 overall pick in the draft. He's under consideration there, among obviously a lot of players. ... There's only gonna be a couple teams – two, three teams that Bronny James visits. The Lakers and Suns, interestingly, are among the two teams."

Most mock drafts place Bronny James in the 50s, which comes with a two-way contract. However, the guard's agent Rich Paul said that his client has no intentions of playing for the G League.

"Yes, that's absolutely true," Paul said. (via Sports Illustrated) "Teams know that. I'm not doing that."

This points to the possibility of Bronny going much earlier in the draft.
