Jeremy Pruitt has gone from coaching in the SEC to teaching PE. The former Tennessee head coach, who was fired in January 2021 for his involvement in a major recruiting scandal, has taken a job as a physical education teacher and middle school basketball coach at Plainview High School in Alabama, his alma mater.Pruitt’s new role is a drastic downgrade from his previous positions as a defensive coordinator at Alabama, Florida State, and Georgia, and as the head coach of the Volunteers, where he made $3.8 million per year. Now, he will be instructing P.E. classes and coaching the seventh and eighth-grade boys' basketball team at a school with fewer than 900 students.Carl Prather@CarlPratherWAFF(1/1) BREAKING:Former Tennessee Volunteers Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt will be named PE Teacher at Plainview High School effective August 1, 2023 according to the Dekalb County Board of Education’s agenda.Mountain Valley News first reported the news via their Facebook page. pic.twitter.com/hwTLaNKEPv43(1/1) BREAKING:Former Tennessee Volunteers Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt will be named PE Teacher at Plainview High School effective August 1, 2023 according to the Dekalb County Board of Education’s agenda.Mountain Valley News first reported the news via their Facebook page. pic.twitter.com/hwTLaNKEPvThe college football world had no mercy for Pruitt regarding his new job, which many saw as a deserved consequence for his cheating ways. The Vols were found guilty of 18 Level I violations, the most serious kind, as part of more than 200 infractions that occurred during Pruitt’s three-year tenure. However, Tennessee avoided a postseason ban, thanks to its “exemplary cooperation” with the NCAA. The school reported the violations to the NCAA and took swift action to fire several coaches and staff involved in the misconduct. The school also imposed scholarship reductions and recruiting restrictions as part of its self-imposed penalties.
