LaNorris Sellers is the starting quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks and a key part of their quest to become a collegiate football powerhouse program. Sellers took over the starting job in 2024 and led the Gamecocks to an 8-4 record last season.
Ahead of the 2025 season, the New York Times reported that Sellers rejected an $8 million offer to leave the Gamecocks.

This news has elicited varying reactions from college football fans.
"If that is true, his circle gave him bad advice. His OC, who got him going, left for App State. They Should have taken the money."
"8 mil for mid at best"
"He's not worth no 8 million he sucks"
Some fans were less critical of the decision.
"That even’s out to $4M/year. He’s almost making that to stay in Columbia ($3.7M for 2025)"
"LaStayingathome"
"Thats my QB"
According to the report, LaNorris Sellers' father claimed that other schools approached him to see whether the Gamecocks quarterback was interested in moving, and that the highest offer he received was for $8 million over two years. He said:
"He was offered all kinds of crazy numbers. But I told him he could say, I am going to stay or I am going to go. By my two cents: It was to get into college on a scholarship, play ball, get our degree and go on about our business. This NIL deal came later.
"We did not come here to make money. We came here to get our education, play ball, and with schools calling, we are not gonna jump ship because they’re offering more than what we’re getting. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it."
Sellers Sr. added:
"You are 19. You don't need ($8 million). You are in a great spot. There were several talks, but it never really crossed his mind (to leave). It is a challenge with colleges offering younger guys that kind of money. Who is going say no to $8 million for two years?"
It turns out Sellers is staying put in South Carolina. He's one of the most sought-after shot callers in the CFB thanks to his pocket presence and impressive game IQ at his young age.
What's next for LaNorris Sellers?
LaNorris Sellers will look to improve his stats across the board as he enters his third season of collegiate football. He was a backup in 2023 but took over the starting job for the 2024 campaign. Sellers repaid his coach's faith by posting a stat line of 2,520 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 12 games.
Sellers was instrumental in the Gamecocks securing bowl game eligibility rather early in the 2024 regular season. However, the program closed out its campaign with a bowl game defeat to Illinois.
Next up for Sellers is training camp, where he and his teammates will tune up their fitness ahead of a crucial 2025 campaign. The Gamecocks start their upcoming campaign with a home game versus the Virginia Tech Hokies.
