Cornerback Keyon Martin has been a big part in helping the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns have a successful season. However, Martin suffered a scary injury in the Ragin' Cajuns' 23-17 win over Texas State on Oct. 29. Although he has had more than a week to recover thanks to an open week, Martin's status is unclear for Saturday's game against Arkansas State.
Martin is not expected to play against the Red Wolves. He appeared to have suffered a serious neck injury and will likely miss the matchup. However, he has not been officially ruled out, so the coaching staff might not make his status official until shortly before the start of the game.
Keyon Martin injury update

Since he suffered an injury against Texas State, there have not been many updates on Keyon Martin. The coaching staff has not spoken about his status for upcoming games. However, Martin made a post on X (formerly Twitter) the day after the injury to let fans know he will be okay. He wrote:
"Appreciate all the prayers and concerns. Ima shake back. Got got me!!!"
What happened to Keyon Martin?
With 52 seconds left in the second quarter against Texas State, Martin was involved in the tackle of Texas State wide receiver Beau Sparks. However, shortly after the tackle, it became clear that something was wrong because Martin was not getting up or moving at all while lying down on the field.
Doctors and trainers quickly rushed to him, but he remained on the field for around 10 minutes before a stretcher was brought to take him off. He was then taken to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos, just a few minutes away from the stadium. It was later reported that Martin was speaking while being carted off.
It was announced after the game that he had been discharged from the hospital. He flew back to Louisiana the next day.
When will Keyon Martin return?
It is not clear when Keyon Martin will return for Louisiana (7-1). The injury he sustained appeared to be a serious neck injury, and as a result, the medical staff are likely to be cautious in clearing him to play. The coaching staff have not spoken about his recovery, but he has not returned to practice. So, Martin is not expected to return for the Ragin' Cajuns when they play Arkansas State (5-3) on Saturday.
