Just over a month ago, the Oregon Ducks missed out on a top quarterback prospect as Jared Curtis, a player linked to Dan Lanning's team, decided to commit to the Georgia Bulldogs. However, all is not lost for Lanning and the Ducks as a suitable replacement is likely on the way.
On Tuesday, it was reported that another top quarterback prospect is going to visit the team this weekend. Hayes Fawcett reported for On3 recruits:
"NEWS: Five-Star QB Ryder Lyons will take an Official Visit to Oregon this weekend, he tells me for @on3recruits. He’s the Top Uncommitted QB in the 2026 Class."

Ryder Lyons is a five-star quarterback (according to 247sports.com) and is the fourth-best rated quarterback in the country. Lyons is the highest-ranked quarterback to not be committed to any program.
From the state of California, Lyons plays high school football at Folsom HS. Last season, he was able to throw for 3,011 yards and for 46 touchdowns.
He was also proficient on his feet, recording 585 rushing yards and scoring 14 touchdowns. Lyons was able to produce similar figures during the 2023 season, his first as a starter.
For his efforts, he was awarded the California Gatorade Player of the Year award in 2024. He also led Folsom to a Northern California championship game that year.
Lyons has proven himself to be successful already, and his visit to Oregon will only build the hype around him further. In the last few seasons, Dan Lanning has been able to work with a number of quarterbacks, each of them leading his team to some sort of a successful campaign.
A good example is Dillon Gabriel, who after transferring from the Oklahoma Sooners, led the Ducks to a Big Ten Conference win in their debut season.
However, Lanning has not been able to work with a quarterback the Ducks recruited and make him successful. He may get this opportunity if Lyons decides to commit.
Will Ryder Lyons comitt to the Oregon Ducks?
Getting Ryder Lyons to commit to the Oregon Ducks may be harder than one thinks. The quarterback has all the leverage at the moment, and the Ducks are not his top pick.
Throughout most of the recruitment period, the USC Trojans have been Lyons's destination of choice. 247sports.com reports that the Trojans are still the team he is most likely to join, working alongside coach Lincoln Riley.
Lanning and Co. will be hoping that the visit this weekend will change things.
