"Aye buddy, Nick Saban ain’t there no more": CFB fans goes wild at Dave Portnoy's massive bet on Alabama's playoff chances

Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy is one of the biggest names in American sports media. He is known for his bold takes and often making huge sports bets.

On Wednesday, he announced that he made a big bet on the No. 7-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (8-2) and their playoff chances. Specifically, he made a bet on them to win the national championship.

Not afraid to part with some of his money, Dave Portnoy made a $100,000 bet on the Alabama Crimson Tide going all the way. If the Crimson Tide wins, Portnoy would be paid out $1.1 million.

The bet caused a big reaction in the college football world. Many people on Twitter reacted negatively, calling him out for making what they believe is a poor bet.

"Aye buddy Nick Saban ain’t there no more," one fan wrote.

"Draft Kings is very greatful for this donation," one fan commented.

"Wild pick idk what would lead him to believe they could actually win," one fan added.

However, not all fans were negative. Some gave Dave Portnoy credit for making a bold bet and others commented that Alabama has a balanced team that could perform well in the playoffs.

"I like the ROI. It's wide open, rumors of Alabama's demise are certainly premature, I think they have a fantastic coach, and 11-1 is really sweet," one fan wrote.

"That’s a safe bet. They’re the most balanced team. The other top teams aren’t battle tested. If not them then Oregon," one fan commented.

"Not a bad bet. Jalen is super solid and they still have Saban talent. Larry Coker says remember me," one fan added.

What are the odds that Dave Portnoy is right about Alabama winning the National Championship?

Based on the odds to win the National Championship, it appears Dave Portnoy has made a smart bet. At the time he made the bet, he got +1000 odds for Alabama.

However, since then, Alabama's odds have decreased to +800. The Crimson Tide are ranked fifth in odds to win the title. The top 10 contenders, according to FanDuel, are as follows:
