CFB fans react as Miami QB Cam Ward gets honored as the ACC Preseason Player of the Year: “But why?” “About to win Heisman”

The Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward was named the preseason pick for the Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year on Thursday. He was the top choice and received 71 out of 170 preseason ballot votes.

When the announcement was made, fan shared their reactions to the news on X (formerly Twitter).

Some fans could not understand why Ward was chosen for the honor, given that he hasn't played a single snap for the Hurricanes.

"But why?" asked one fan.
"He’s already fumbled 6 times in fall camp," another fan said.
"Why is this a thing?" one fan said.

However, there were some fans who were happy that Cam Ward was selected as the ACC Preseason Player of the Year.

"About to win the Heisman," a fan said.
"Miami is on fire," one fan said.
"From the conference of champions," another fan said.

Cam Ward talks about entering the college football transfer portal

The Miami QB was a guest on episode 1 of Shedeur Sanders' "2Legendary" podcast. There, Cam Ward discussed entering the transfer portal and explained why he did so. Coming as an unranked recruit from Columbia High School in West Columbia, Texas. He also revealed that the Cardinals were the only program that offered him a scholarship.

"So I had one offer coming out of UIW [University of Incarnate Word]," Ward said. "Took that and ran with it...UIW, they didn't offer until three or four months right before I graduated high school. That's when COVID happened and all that." (11:35)
"Went there. I was the third-string quarterback. Ended up getting the starting job. They canceled the fall season because of COVID, so we played the spring. Ended up starting there. Played there the spring and the fall. Won a conference championship in the fall, then portal." (11:55)

Cam Ward also explained that he felt his time was up at Wahington State Cougars and wanted to start afresh and that is why he transferred to the University of Miami.

Ward put up great numbers in the 2023 college football season, where he passed for 3,736 yards and 25 touchdowns. Though he declared for the 2024 NFL draft, he withdrew and transferred to Miami Hurricanes.
