Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sander's ex-wife Pilar Sanders supports her children, Shilo, Shedeur and Shelomi Sanders in their respective fields. Pilar regularly attends games in Boulder and even Alabama where her daughter plays for the A&M Bulldogs.
The Buffs lost 37-21 to the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 13 prompting widespread criticism of Colorado's defense. Amid this, Pilar supported Shilo through an Instagram post celebrating his performance despite the loss. Shilo tallied a career-high 13 tackles (7 solo).
"Congrats son! 🎉🗣️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Great job @shilosanders #proudmom #bigshilo #big21 #21 #headachegang #shilosanders #gobuffs #footballmom vs. Kansas," Pilar Sanders wrote.
Shilo once said he wanted Pilar Sanders to have his custody
When Coach Prime and Pilar Sanders divorced in 2013, the Colorado coach initially got full custody of all their children while their mother got visitation rights.
The divorce made the front pages of several tabloids and commanded headlines when Pilar was sued for defamation by Coach Prime after she claimed that she hit and kicked one of their sons.
Pilar was even jailed for seven days for contempt of court and even once refused to return the children to their father's custody prompting another round of court sessions.
In 2017, Shilo Sanders posted a controversial tweet that seemed to suggest that he preferred to be under the guardianship of his mother over his father.
"After what seems like forever, I'm finally officially back full-time with my mom! My mom having full custody of me is all I have wanted for years. Thank you to the court system for finally seeing the truth and putting me in a healthy, loving environment," Shilo wrote in the now-deleted post.
During a 2022 episode of "The Second Shot," Pilar revealed a hilarious story about how overprotective Shilo was of her.
"My son, like Shilo in particular, he's like, 'Mommy just stay home, you don't have to do anything," Pilar said. "Oh my gosh! My son, Shilo is just like whenever we show up for the game, he's trying to cover me like, 'I don't want anyone looking at your bu*t or your shape' and I'm like, 'Shilo, come on!'
"But it's funny because people who don't know us would think that I'm their age or their sister or something like that."
Pilar Sanders has shown her support for Shilo Sanders, attending his games in Boulder regularly and posting encouraging messages on Instagram.
