The anticipation continues to build as Arch Manning becomes the starting quarterback for Texas in the 2025 college football season. After showing a lot of promise with his performance as a backup last season, many are waiting to see what he can do for Texas as a starter.
Quinn Ewers, who was the starting quarterback for Texas in 2024, experienced a lot of struggles in the backfield. This played a role in the Longhorns falling short of the national championship. Fans are therefore anticipating where Manning improves the offense.
Brooks Austin joined Saturday's episode of “On Texas Football,” where he discussed how Arch Manning will improve the Longhorns' offense. The analyst, who's popularly known as “The Film Guy,” believes there will be a change in the team's deep game passing, where Ewers struggled significantly in his years at Texas.

“My initial thought process when I think about where Arch (Manning) might improve this offense, and Texas fans will know this ad nauseam, is the deep game passing accuracy," Austin said (5:06). "Quinn struggled with it for the entire time at Texas
“There were spurts where he was good at it, but driving the ball down the field consistently and accurately was a drastic flaw, in my opinion, in Quin Ewers’ game. I don't think it's going to be that with Arch. I think that 25-plus range in this offense got a drastic increase.”
Brooks Austin outlines the benefits of Arch Manning’s deep game passing accuracy for Texas
After highlighting deep game passing as an area where Arch Manning will improve Texas next season, Brooks Austin went on to explain how that will be beneficial to the team. The analyst sees the Longhorns’ offense becoming more explosive if they can throw more deep balls.
“When you're good in that deep game passing accuracy, it opens up all that other stuff that Texas kind of relied upon over the last couple of years,” Austin said. “There are yards per attempt that Texas dropped drastically over the last two or three years with Quinn at quarterback because of that.”
“We're not able to drive the ball down the field, so we're starting to get to some of that screen game you alluded to, not just those throwback screens … I think you're going to see drastic changes in your deep game passing attack.”
With Arch Manning leading the offense, Texas is touted for something big in the 2025 college football season. The Longhorns are seen as a major contender for the national championship next season, having reached the semifinals of the College Football Playoff in the last two years.
