The Texas A&M Aggies, under new coach Mike Elko, have kicked it up a notch after the home loss against coach Marcus Freeman's Notre Dame Fighting Irish to open the season. The Aggies put on a show against the Missouri Tigers in a crushing 41-10 win over the Missouri Tigers to improve to 5-1.
The game between the Aggies and the Tigers was punctuated by pregame controversy when Texas A&M cornerback Will Lee reportedly sent a blanket with a taunting message to his opposite number, Tigers wide receiver Theo Wease Jr.
“Get used to this blanket,” the note said. “It will be real tomorrow.”

After the game, Mike Elko discussed the "blanket controversy," pointing the finger at Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz as the originator of the blanket gimmick.
“My suggestion would be you guys go ask Eli where that came from,” Elko said. “Because I have a strong feeling that that came from the other side and had nothing to do with Texas A&M, Will Lee, or anybody over here. So, you should point that one on the other side.”
Mike Elko fights for his quarterback
After pummelling the Missouri Tigers 41-10 largely aided by the return of quarterback Conner Weigman who went 18-of-22 for 276 yards, Texas A&M Aggies coach Mike Elko was in a combative mood during his postgame news conference.
Elko addressed the discourse around Weigman after a three-week absence due to an AC shoulder joint injury. Freshman Marcel Reed stepped into the role and performed admirably.
“The last thing I’m going to say, and I’m going to say this because it needs to be said,” Elko began. “You can challenge Conner for how he plays, and you can be upset about Conner for how he throws a football.
"Some of the stuff that has been said about this kid and written about this kid — not by you guys, you guys have been great — is embarrassing. Is absolutely embarrassing the stuff that gets out there on this kid."
Elko further extensively praised Weigman's character and talent.
"This kid’s a winner, he’s a competitor. He does everything that he needs to do for Texas A&M football. And there’s a lot of people right now that need to stand up and recognize what they’ve said over the last three weeks and take some ownership in it,” Elko said.
Conner Weigman has registered 225 yards on 52.3% completion resulting in two touchdowns and two interceptions this season and Mike Elko has shown his trust in him publicly.
