Running back Cam Skattebo and offensive lineman Mattheos Katergaris were teammates on the Arizona State Sun Devils at one point. It is possible they were friends, as they were on the team at the same time. However, that no longer appears to be the case because Katergaris is suing the school and the Arizona Board of Regents over injuries he suffered in a golf cart accident in 2023.
The case relates to Skattebo because he allegedly engaged in unsafe conduct that could have led to the crash. The lawsuit claims that Skattebo jumped up and down on the back of the golf cart, which caused the rear bench to structurally fail.
Who is Mattheos Katergaris?

Mattheos Katergaris is a former walk-on offensive lineman at Arizona State. The Scottsdale, Arizona, native was on the Sun Devils roster in 2022 as a freshman but did not appear in any games that season.
After suffering injuries in a golf cart incident in the summer of 2023, Katergaris entered the transfer portal in the fall. However, it is unclear whether he ever transferred to another school. He did not play college football again after the injuries he sustained from the incident.
What injuries did Mattheos Katergaris suffer in the golf cart incident?
The lawsuit claims that after a summer practice in July 2023, Cam Skattebo jumped up and down on the back of a golf cart when two players were already riding in the vehicle. Players had allegedly been informed that the golf carts were only built to hold two riders.
Skattebo's actions allegedly caused the back seat in the golf cart to break, which Katergaris was sitting in. He fell to the ground and suffered a severe injury, which he has not recovered from. His attorney spoke about this in March:
"He got a really bad laceration, essentially going all the way down to the bone in his elbow and it essentially ruptured his distal triceps tendon 90% of the way, so he required surgery and months of physical therapy."
The lawsuit claims that Skattebo owes Katergaris a "duty of care to act in a way that did not cause the golf cart to become structurally unstable."
However, Cam Skattebo has denied responsibility for the incident. Skattebo has claimed that he had no knowledge of the weight limit on the golf cart because there was no safety presentation. Skattebo is preparing for his first NFL season after getting selected by the New York Giants in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft.
