Fans reacted as the Portland State Vikings-South Dakota Coyotes game was canceled due to members of the Portland State program dealing with whooping cough.
In a statement released by Portland State, no players in their program are seriously ill at this time.
However, that didn't stop social media from discussing the whooping cough outbreak.
"Didn't have whooping cough outbreak on my bingo card today," one user posted.
One tweeted:
"Whooping cough is no joke. It gets deep in your lungs."
"They were unable to ford the rver to continue along the Oregon Trail," another poster responded.
While this is something you do not see every day, people were definitely shocked to say the least.
"Yikes... did the wagon wheel break," one commented on the post
"What in the 1884 is going on?,"Aanother Twitter user posted.
Portland State is still searching for their first win of the season and played against the Weber State Wildcats last week. Thankfully, it appears that no Weber State players have any symptoms of the reported whooping cough.
What happens with the South Dakota vs. Portland State game?
The game between South Dakota Jackrabbits and the Portland State Vikings is not going to be rescheduled and instead will be canceled.
Boise State issued the following statement discussing their game next Saturday against Portland State (via ESPN).
"We are aware of Portland State's decision to cancel their game against South Dakota due to health and safety protocols.
"We are in communication with Portland State's administration and will remain so as we continue to monitor the situation as it pertains to next Saturday's game. Our utmost priority and concern are for the health and safety of anyone involved."
With the game not going to be rescheduled, there's going to be more information regarding ticketing and refunds for the game as the whooping cough outbreak situation evolves.
