Jonathon Brooks is one of the top-rated running backs in the 2024 NFL draft, however, he was not picked in the first round, much like every other running back this year.

This has nothing to do with his talents and more to do with NFL teams preferring not to spend high draft capital on the position. Now, Jonathon Brooks has been drafted by the Carolina Panthers as the 46th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft

LSU women’s basketball guard Flau'jae Johnson offered her support to Jonathan Brooks ahead of Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft. The $1.2 million NIL-valued Johnson (per On3) took to Instagram to hype up Brooks on his future in the NFL. The running back also reshared the post on his Instagram story.

What does Jonathon Brooks bring to the Carolina Panthers?

Jonathon Brooks was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round and was the first running back picked in the 2024 NFL draft.

Brooks is currently injured after suffering a torn ACL against TCU during their Big 12 contest on Nov. 11. He is expected to be out of action for a long period, but there's optimism that the running back will be fit for training camp.

Without a doubt, Brooks has brilliant qualities as a running back and flows through run lanes with excellent quickness. He also has outstanding spatial awareness and slick feet that allow him to make light work of stacking cuts and moves.

Furthermore, he possesses a smooth, long-striding gait that allows him to accelerate up seams and exploit second-level creases effectively. He also demonstrates flexibility in manipulating tracking angles while maintaining a vertical presence.

Jonathon Brooks' college career

Jonathon Brooks had a brilliant career during his time at Texas. While he didn’t get the starting opportunity early, he took it when he eventually got it.

As a freshman in 2021, he recorded 143 yards and a touchdown in 21 carries, playing just four games. He did better in 2022, recording 197 rushing yards on 30 carries with five touchdowns, playing behind Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson.

He became a starter in 2023 and was crucial to the team’s success. He recorded 1,139 rushing yards on 187 carries, scoring 10 touchdowns. This earned him recognition in the second-team All-Big 12 in 2023.
