The Ashes Test at Gabba was looking all too familiar for the visitors after Australia took a handsome 221 run lead in the first innings. Many expected England to fold in the second innings, but Alastair Cook, in the company of Andrew Strauss and Jonathan Trott batted out a mammoth 152 overs to ensure that the series was tied at 0-0 after the first Test.

Cook batted for more than 10 and a half hours to finish with an unbeaten 235, which was later termed by many former greats as one of the best ever Ashes hundreds down under by a visiting England batsman.

Cook went on to make a further 148 and 189 in Adelaide and Sydney respectively to complete the series with a massive 766 runs that enabled England win the Ashes 3-1.
