Alastair Cook was already having a great time with the bat in this series against India with two hundreds in his first series as full time England Test captain.

The series was tied at 1-1 going into Kolkata Test and Cook continued with his purple patch to score his third hundred. He batted for more than 8 hours to score a huge 190 to set up England's victory that gave them 2-1 series lead.

This was Cook's 23rd Test ton and thereby became the record holder for scoring maximum hundreds for England overtaking Geoffrey Boycott, Colin Cowdrey, Wally Hammond and Kevin Pietersen. Cook also overtook Sachin Tendulkar as the youngest to reach 7000 Test runs at the age of 27 years and 347 days.
