In the TNPL Governing Council Meeting held on 1st May, it has been decided that the third edition of the tournament will be held from the first/second week of July 2018 and will end by the first/second week of August.

Here are five things every cricket fan who is looking forward to the 2018 edition of the TNPL should know about.


#1 Player retentions

Each team will be eligible to retain up to three players such that not more than one player who has represented in international matches and one player who has represented in senior domestic tournaments from the squad of 2017 season.

If a team doesn't have any player who has represented in international matches from 2017 squad, the team has the option of retaining two players who have represented in senior domestic tournaments.

The retention of the players is optional and not compulsory for the teams.

#2 Player eligibility

All the players who are registered with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association or its District Association are eligible to register to play for the TNPL
Players who are registered with the TNCA or its District Association are eligible to register to play

All the players who are registered with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association or its District Association are eligible to register to play for the TNPL.

The player registration form was available at TNCA office from 15th April 2018 for all prospective players and the forms were also available at the TNCA website for players.

#3 Player category and fee

Players who have represented the Senior Indian team will have a price band from Rs. five to three Lakh

The categories of players and their price band are:

1) International players who have represented the Senior Indian team

Rs 5 lakhs / Rs 4 lakhs / Rs 3 lakhs

2) Category B

B1 - Players who have represented in the First Class tournaments conducted by the BCCI (Multi-day/One day/T20 format)

B2 - Players who have not played in Senior Domestic tournaments conducted by the BCCI and those who have played more than 75% of the TNPL league games for a team for the last two years.

Rs 2.5 lakhs / Rs 2 lakhs / Rs 1.5 lakhs

3) Other players

Rs 1 lakh / Rs 0.75 lakh / Rs 0.5 lakh

#4 Squad size

Maximum squad size for the franchises is 19. All registered players who are not retained by teams will go into the Player Draft Pool.

TNCA will provide the list of the registered players to the franchisees at least 7 days before the Player Draft.

Only players who are in the Draft Pool can be taken by the franchisees. No private signing will be allowed.

At the end of the player draft, each tea should have fulfilled the following criteria:

1) A minimum squad size of 18

2) A minimum of 2 players who have represented districts

3) A minimum of 2 players who are below the age of 19 as of 1st September 2018
