Until last year Murali Vijay was one of India's primary Test batsmen. He was among the few Indian batsmen who scored runs all over the world. But things have changed quite dramatically for the opening batsman.

A poor run in England, making 20, 6, 0 and 0 in the four innings of the first two Tests saw him dropped from the team. He wasn't picked for the West Indies series at home. But thanks to his good show for Essex in the County cricket, he is back in the team.

The 34-year-old opener from Chennai is a very classy and elegant batsman. With his adaptable technique, Vijay has proved his mettle in away conditions. This tour Down Under is a do-or-die tour for Murali Vijay. Failure here may put an end to his Test career but some good performances will secure his place in the Test team.

Vijay will be 38 when India next tour Australia. With the likes of Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal coming into the scene, it will be very difficult for Vijay to maintain his position in the team at that time.
