The Indian Premier League(IPL) has created a buzz which has hit the entire nation. The excitement, drama, and thrill of the IPL are unmatched and even non-cricketing fans watch the IPL with utmost pleasure but amidst this cash-rich T20 league, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has dropped a surprise as they have announced the schedule for the 2019 World Cup which is slated to be held in England.

The World Cup will begin on the 30th of May when the host nation England takes on the Proteas at The Oval. The much loved Indian team will begin its campaign against South Africa on 5th June in Southampton. After a disheartening defeat in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, the Indian side would hope to battle their knockout evils.

The chopping and changing of the players start at an early stage to form a balanced side for the World Cup. The Indian team has tried several players at different positions to get their balance right. On this note, let us take a look at five players who deserve an opportunity before the 2019 World Cup.


#5 Prithvi Shaw

India's recent under 19 World Cup winning skipper Prithvi Shaw has proved himself in every format till now. Shaw rose to the limelight after breaking Tendulkar's record in school cricket, his comparison with the master blaster started from a young age. The Mumbaikar proved himself in domestic cricket when he scored a century for Mumbai on debut.

He also led India to glory in the under 19 World Cup in New Zealand. His performances earned him an IPL contract. The 18-year-old has also proved himself in the IPL so far with scores of 22 and 62. The flamboyant batsman can rise up the ranks in international cricket if he is provided with enough opportunity.

The selectors may look turn to Shaw before the 2019 World Cup but will he do justice to his talent?

#4 Deepak Chahar

Rajasthan speedster Deepak Chahar earned an IPL contract on the basis of his performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The pacer dismissed 19 batsmen in 9 games as he helped his side to reach the final of the tournament. In the previous edition of the IPL, Chahar played for the Rising Pune Supergiants where he impressed one and all with his swing and pace.

In this edition of the IPL Chahar has returned as an improved bowler. The guidance of MS Dhoni has helped him to grow and fit in his role. The lanky pacer often bowls three overs in the powerplay. Its tough for most batsmen to negotiate his swing, his height also helps him to get the bounce and carry from the pitch.

The 25-year-old can be used up front with the new ball. He is a contender for the Indian side in the shorter versions of the game.

Washington Sundar, a name which rose to prominence during the 2017 edition of the IPL. Sundar featured in the 2016 edition of the Under 19 World Cup. He was India's best player of the tournament as he contributed with both bat and ball. In the previous edition of the IPL Sundar bowled some crucial overs in the powerplay.

His performance in IPL and domestic cricket earned him a national call-up. He performed brilliantly in the Nidahas Trophy which was held to celebrate the 70 years of Sri Lanka's independence. Sundar bowled upfront and also in the middle of the innings. His miserly bowling spell created pressure on the oppositions which resulted in wickets.

After being successful in the T20 format the Tamil Nadu lad would hope to get an ODI call-up. The Indian selectors will be keen on giving him a go soon.

Ambati Rayadu has been in sensational form in the ongoing IPL. Rayadu has been around Indian cricket for a long time but the Hyderabad lad has never had his opportunity. Despite his everlasting consistency, he has been in and out of the Indian side. His last five international scores read 44*, 124*, 41*, 62* and 41*.

Rayadu has been successful under the leadership of MS Dhoni. He will be looking to make a comeback to the Indian one-day squad. According to reports, the Indian selectors are also looking to bring the Hyderabad lad back into the side for the England tour. The flamboyant batsman can utilize this opportunity before the 2019 World Cup.

He can solve India's middle order woes.

51 off 16, KL Rahul began his IPL campaign tremendously as he scored the joint fastest fifty in IPL history. In the first game against the Delhi Daredevils Rahul played some delightful shots to score a 15 ball fifty. In the later games, Rahul further repaid the faith back by playing some blistering knocks. The classical batsman is a part of India's T20 and Test setup.

Rahul can open the innings and can also mark his presence in the middle order. With his exuberant strokeplay, Rahul can take the responsibility of batting at number four in the one-day side. He can be handy in swinging conditions in England. The upcoming series against England will decide his fate.

The Karnataka batsman is likely to be picked for all three formats against England owing to his recent performances.
