2019 has been a year which promises a lot, of cricket, whistle-worthy moments and new, talented cricketers into the circuit. With the boundaries going shorter and the average runs per game growing higher, batsmen are the need of the hour.

Few teams are going through problems in their middle-order while few are encountering them at the top of the order. There have been new batsmen entering the scene who have impressed everyone with their performances.

In this segment, let's take a look at five promising batsmen to look out for in 2019.

#5 Shubman Gill (India)

Shubman Gill has been one player whose has been convincing the selectors into picking him with exceptional domestic performances. Gill is almost sure to get an international chance this year sometime or the other either before or after the World Cup.

His radical approach to his innings and his brilliant range of shots make him a really beautiful batsman to watch. With the IPL still to come, Gill has a lot of action on his hands and if I'm bold I can make a prediction. This talented young batsman will get the chances he deserves and is one to keep your eye on this year.

#4 Hazratullah Zazai (Afghanistan)

Hazratullah Zazai was an immediate sensation with his performances in the Afghanistan Premier League and made a re-entry into the Afghanistan T20I team and sent the ball flying against a hapless-looking Ireland bowling attack.

Despite his snub in the ODI format, Afghanistan will and must surely persist with him because he's a clean striker of the ball and is a very dangerous batsman who can thrive in the powerplay overs much like a Chris Gayle.

He had a great start to the Bangladesh Premier League and bashed 78 in the opening match against the Rajshahi Kings. With ample opportunities and great confidence going into international matches, Zazai is one exciting player who you should keep your eye on.

#3 Mayank Agarwal (India)

Mayank Agarwal's name on this list will surely not raise any eyebrows as his performances in Australia justify his immense talent. Hardened and groomed by his long Ranji Trophy and India A stint, Agarwal seemed at ease and dominated the strong Aussie bowling attack whenever he stepped out to bat.

Unlike his Karnataka teammate Rahul, he was able to play the swinging ball with ease and his punch of the back foot was very elegant to watch. With solid technique and an opportunity for an opener which he has carved for himself, Agarwal can shine brightly this year doing justice to his talent as well do India some good on the big stage.

#2 Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies)

Shimron Hetmyer made headlines after his brilliant 100 against India which was followed by 95. Many experts took notice of his clean striking ability and aggressive approach to the game which was on display even in the Caribbean Premier League. From being an unknown debutant, Hetmyer's talent fetched him 4.2 Cr and an IPL contract to rub shoulders with players like ABD and Kohli with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He has become an integral part of the West Indies team and with the World Cup and many other bilateral series being scheduled for the Windies, Hetmyer will be of prime importance to them. With huge responsibility and the talent, Hetmyer will be a leading candidate to keep an eye on.

#1 Prithvi Shaw (India)

'Luck was not on his side'. That's all we can say about Prithvi Shaw's predicament after picking up an ankle injury in the practice match before the Australia Test series which ruled him out for a couple of months.

He was the clear front-runner for the opening spot with excellent performances in various games for various sides like India A tour and the Ranji Trophy. He was garnering high praise from cricketers all over the world hailing him the next big thing in Indian cricket and rightly so, it's really a treat to watch Shaw bat.

His height never a hurdle, Shaw's elegance and control is simply mind-blowing and it would've been fascinating to see Shaw combat the Aussies in their conditions and made for a good challenge. Nevertheless, with the beginning of the World Test Championship next year and three Test series scheduled, Shaw will certainly be a leading candidate for the opening spot. Who knows, he can get into the limited overs side as well. Despite the injuries, Shaw's batting is something which we must look out for this year.
