Semi Final 2 - ICC Under 19 World Cup

#2 Wasim Akram at 18 years 251 days against New Zealand at Carisbrook, 1985

England v Pakistan

He is one of the greatest fast bowlers to have played the game and the ‘King of Swing’ Wasim Akram showed his prowess as a bowler of rare quality when he was only 18 years world. Although Pakistan lost the 3rd Test match at Carisbrook and with that the series, it was Wasim Akram who emerged with his head held high. At the time, he was a tearaway quick and in addition to that, his ability to swing the ball either way made him an almost unplayable bowler at times. In the 1st innings, he took 5 for 56 to help dismiss New Zealand for 220 and in the process Pakistan managed a first innings lead of 58.

However, they could not capitalise on that and were dismissed for 223, to give the hosts a target of 278. Akram was equally good in the 2nd innings and his opening burst had reduced New Zealand to 23 for 4. He eventually ended up taking 5 for 72 but a century from Jeremy Coney saw New Zealand recover and eventually win the game narrowly by 2 wickets. He remained the youngest to have taken a 10 wicket haul for more than two decades.
