The 6 Teams that will be playing in the World Cricket League Division Two

The World Cricket League Division Two begins on February 08, 2018. Namibia are hosting the tournament, which will determine the last two teams to qualify for the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.

Let us take a look at the six participants in the tournament.


#1 Canada

ICC Mens WC Qualifier: Canada v Afghanistan

The Canadian cricket team have made appearances in the Cricket World Cup till 2011, after which they have gone down crashing in the international arena. They lost their ODI and T20I status in 2014, and failed to qualify for the 2015 World Cup. They were relegated to Division Three in 2015.

However, regular fixtures with the Carribean and the USA cricket teams have helped them improve.

They finished as runners-up in the 2017 Division Three tournament, and qualified for Division Two. They will be looking forward to get back in the international stage by securing a place in World Cup Qualifiers.

#2 Oman

Desert T20 Challenge

Oman is one nation which has risen massively in the international arena in the last 2 years. They had qualified for the 2016 World T20, and recorded one of the biggest upsets by defeating the Ireland cricket team.

The Omani cricket team has climbed up the division structure from Division Five in 2016 to Division Two.

They will be looking forward to coming a step closer towards the World Cup in this tournament.

#3 Namibia

The Namibian cricket team made their only major appearance in the 2003 World Cup, and have since been trying to make another appearance in international tournaments.They have been playing regularly in South African domestic events.

Namibia will be playing Division 2 after finishing last on the World Cricket League Championship.

Playing at home conditions is an advantage, which they would be hoping to capitalize upon. They too, would be looking forward to secure a place in the World Cup Qualifiers next month.

#4 Nepal

Nepal burst in the international arena in the 2014 T20 World Cup, where they managed to defeat Hong Kong and the strong Afghani team.

Unlike most of the associate countries,the Nepali cricket team comprises of indigenous players, coupled with a massive fan following back home.

The country will be playing Division 2 after finishing 7th in the World Cricket League Championship. They will look to improve their performance and seal the place for the next level.

#5 United Arab Emirates

India v United Arab Emirates - 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup

United Arab Emirates is one of the emerging cricketing nations and the only team in the tournament to have an ODI status. They are the favourites to win the Division Two tournament.

UAE played the 2015 World Cup but failed to win any match. The team, however, has been playing regular international fixtures since then, and have been performing well across events. They even qualified for the group stage of the 2016 Asia Cup by defeating the likes of Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

United Arab Emirates will be playing Division 2 after finishing 6th on the World Cricket League Championship. They will strive hard to win the tournament and maintain their position in the international arena.

#6 Kenya

Kenya was considered as one of the strongest associate teams, particularly after they reached the semi-finals in the 2003 World Cup. Lack of opportunities, however, lead to the decline of the Kenyan team.

Kenya’s last major tournament appearance was in 2011 World Cup in the Indian subcontinent, where they failed to win any match. They lost their ODI and T20I status in 2014, and also failed to qualify for 2015 World Cup.

The country will be playing Division 2 after finishing 5th in the World Cricket League Championship,while looking forward to wining the tournament, and re-entering the international arena.
