Being a permanent in the ODI squad requires one to perform regularly and stay relevant in the team in more than one department. However, Sarfraz hasn’t managed to do that too well in ODIs this year.

His average for 2018 is below his career average, and he has only managed to make two half-centuries this year, which is a poor showing by the captain. Both his half-centuries came against the New Zealand line-up, with one coming in January and the other in November.

A gap of over nine months in scoring a century is extremely worrisome for the entire team think-tank and Sarfraz was asked to step up as the captain, which he hasn’t managed to do as yet.

His strike rate for the year was also under 80 which is another alarming sign for a batsman who walks in at the latter stages of the innings. Managing 7 single digit scores in 14 innings this year has not only affected his own career but also his team’s overall performance.
