Test matches have been the Achilles heel of Sarfraz’s performance this year, and also of most of Pakistan’s middle order.

A team that has the tendency to have a batting collapse one out of four times requires an anchor in the lower order, something Sarfraz hasn’t managed to be.

He has scored at a measly average of 24, and only managed two half-centuries in fifteen innings. Surprisingly, both his half-centuries came in the same Test which started on October 16 in Abu Dhabi against Australia.

Apart from that, he scored seven single-digit scores this year in 15 innings, with the most recent being consecutive ducks against South Africa in Pakistan’s last Test match of the year on Boxing Day.

In the remaining six innings, he hasn’t managed to cross the 30-run mark even once which uncovers his poor form with the bat, and Pakistan’s poor show in the middle of the innings.
