What's the story?
A touch of romance was added to the second day's play of the ongoing Ashes Test. A young cricket fan proposed to his girlfriend after lunch in the pool deck at the Gabba as Australian openers David Warner and Cameron Bancroft walked to the crease.
Australian fans Michael Langridge and Tori Roebuck were enjoying the view from the pool before Michael dropped to one knee and popped the question. To the delight of the crowd and Michael, she said yes.
Former Australian captain Mark Taylor, who was doing commentary, said: “I assume that means she said yes, with all the kissing and what have you that’s going on.”
Michael, who was sporting a bright yellow-and-green swim-wear in support of his beloved Australia took Tori by surprise. The glee was evident in her face as she said yes and the couple embraced each other and started a new innings in their life just as Warner and Bancroft were looking to do the same on the pitch for Australia.
In case you didn't know...
Australia are currently taking on England in the first Test of the Ashes 2017/18 at the Gabba. England were bowled out for 302 before the Australian openers came out to bat and the incident took place. At the end of the second day's play, Australia managed to halve the deficit with Steve Smith and Shaun Marsh at the crease.
While there may have been a lot of debate with regards to the pool at the Gabba, it has certainly provided another opportunity for lovers of the game to profess their love for someone. Proposals happen in all sorts of places and to see one at a cricket ground during an Ashes game is certainly unique and one hopes the happy couple has a great time going forward.
