Oman register their 3rd successive win of the tournament

In the 3rd round matches of Asia Cup 2018 qualifiers, Oman registered their 3rd successive win of the tournament while Hong Kong crushed the United Arab Emirates and Nepal registered their first victory beating Malaysia.

Oman registered their 3rd successive win of the tournament beating Singapore by 8 wickets in the first match of the day, played at Kinara Academy Oval, Bandar Kinara. It was an outstanding performance by Oman team. Singapore captain Suryawanshi won the toss and decided to bat first. Apart from R Rohan 68 and Paraam 77, none of Singapore batsmen failed to contribute. Oman restricted Singapore to 215 for 8 in 50 overs. For Oman, Bilal Khan was the pick of bowlers with 4 for 40.

In reply, Jatinder Singh and Aqib IIyas put on 151 runs for the first wicket in just 17.1 overs. Aqib IIyas made a brilliant 108 off 71 balls while Jatinder Singh contributed 53. Oman won the match by 8 wickets with 140 balls to spare.

Malaysia took on Nepal in the second match of the day. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 30 overs side. Malaysian captain Ahmed Faiz won the toss and decided to field first. DS Airee 54 and quick-fire knock by Aarif Sheikh who remained not out on 64 off 48 balls helped Nepal post 188 for 7 in 30 overs. For Malaysia, Syarzul Idrus and S Muniandy took 3 wickets each.

Nepal bowlers restricted Malaysia to 169 for 9 registering their first win of the tournament. Anwar Arudin and Syed Aziz made 34 each but rest of batting failed to chase down the target. B Regmi was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 36 while Sompal Kami and Lamichhane took 2 wickets each. Nepal won the match by 19 runs.

In the last match of day, Hong Kong crushed the United Arab Emirates by 182 runs. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 49 overs side. UAE captain Rohan Mustafa won the toss and decided to field first.

Hong Kong captain Anushman Rath and Babar Hayat partnership of 180 runs for the 2nd wicket laid a strong foundation for a big total. Rath made 102 while Hayat scored 107 helped Hong Kong posted a competitive total of 275 for 8 in 49 overs. For UAE, Rohan Mustafa and Imran Haider took 3 wickets each.

Chasing the target of 276 runs to win, Hong Kong bowlers did not allow UAE to score runs easily. The captain Rohan Mustafa was the top scorer for UAE with 33 runs. Hong Kong bowled out UAE for just 93 runs in 24.5 overs. For Hong Kong, Ehsan Khan was the pick of bowlers with 4/17. Ehsan Nawaz and Nadeem Ahmed took 2 wickets while Aizaz Khan took 1 wicket.

Oman are at the points table with 6 points and looking good to qualify for the main draw. Hong Kong and UAE have registered 2 wins so far.

The 4th round of matches will see Hong Kong taking on Oman, Malaysia taking on UAE and the final match Nepal versus Singapore on 2nd September.
