Steve Smith played a captain’s innings during the first day of the Brisbane Test against Pakistan

Day One of the opening Australia-Pakistan Test played under lights for the first at the Gabba in Brisbane belonged to the hosts as led by a hundred from skipper Steve Smith, they notched up 288 for 3 in 90 overs.

The 27-year-old right-hander remained unbeaten on 110 and was well-supported by Peter Handscomb, who was not out on 64 at the end of the opening day. All the Pakistani bowlers had a tough day on the field and Mohammad Amir, Yasir Shah and Wahab Riaz, each picked up one wicket apiece, but it was Australi who took the honours on Day One.

1-Today was the first time in six Tests that Australia won a toss. They have been on the wrong side of the coin for the past six occasions.

3-Steve Smith’s hundred on the opening day of the Day/Night Test against Pakistan was his third. No one has scored more hundreds than him in pink ball first-class matches.

8-On Thursday, Steve Smith became the eighth Australian batsman to record a Test hundred against the Top 7 ranked oppositions in the world.

1-Today was the first time since the Guyana Test of 2011 that Pakistan bowled 30 overs in a single session of a Test match.

1-This is the first time that a ground other than the Adelaide Oval has played host to a pink ball Test in Australia. The ground played host to one match last month against South Africa and also hosted the maiden Day/Night Test against New Zealand last year.

8-Steve Smith’s hundred on Thursday was his eighth as the captain of the Australian Test team. It was also 16th Test century overall.
