Dhawan scored his career’s third century

After winning the toss, Virat Kohli decided to bat first in the only Test match against Bangladesh. His decision was well backed by the Indian openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan as they batted the whole day without getting dismissed.

Only 56 overs were bowled on the first day as rain played spoilsport in between overs, and India finished at 239 without the loss of a wicket. There was nothing for the Bangladesh's bowlers as they failed to make any inroads into the Indian batting lineup. Both Dhawan and Vijay looked comfortable at the close of play.

239* – Vijay and Dhawan's 239 run opening stand surpassed India's previous best against Bangladesh of 175 run by Dinesh Karthik and Wasim Jaffer.
