GIF: David Warner's bowling action mirrors that of Australian legend Shane Warne

David Warner and Shane Warne

David Warner, apart from having a similar surname to Australian legend Shane Warne, also has a bowling action that is identical to that of the maestro. Warne’s feats, over his long and illustrious career with Australia, has led to many leg-spinners trying to copy Warne’s action but none seem to do it as accurately as Warner.

From the point of view of a leg-spinner, Warne’s bowling action was as close to perfection as one could get. He had a relaxed approach to the crease - strolling in gently for the first couple of yards - before generating the force required to impart heavy spin on the ball through his pivot at the bowling crease. He also used his left arm, the non-bowling arm, really well, and it helped him get as many revolutions on the ball as possible.

Judging by Warner’s action, it looks as though the 27-year old left-hander has all the ingredients required to be a good spin bowler, but it is safe to say that his leg breaks are nowhere near the quality of Warne’s.

While Warne picked 708 wickets from 145 Tests, Warner, who to be fair is just a part-timer, has picked a mere 4 wickets from his 30 Tests.
