Eden Gardens pitch curator refuses to prepare a rank turner

After being requested by Indian capain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Prabir Mukherjee, Eden’s veteran curator, has refused to prepare a rank turner for the third Test against England.

The BCCI had earlier asked the curators to prepare a pitch with “turn and bounce” after India succumbed to a defeat in Motera because of the slow and low track.

“We have asked the curators to cooperate with whatever demands the Indian captain has regarding the pitches for the Tests and T20s against England,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.

NDTV has reported that the BCCI has now asked Ashish Bhowmick of the Tripura Cricket Association to assist Prabir Mukherjee to prepare the ground and pitch for the December 5 match.

“When the wicket seams right from the first delivery, nobody asks questions. What you don’t want is ridges in the wicket. The only way to take the toss out of the equation is to have pitches that turn right from the start,” Dhoni said in Ahmedabad on Monday.
