Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin's son dies after battling for 5 days

Ayazuddin (19), son of Congress MP and former cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, died due to multiple organ failure at the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday.

Ayazuddin was admitted in the hospital on 11 September after he met with an accident while riding a sports bike. The second year B.Com student at St. Mary’s College sustained critical injuries when his bike skidded off the road at Puppalguda on Outer Ring Road (ORR). His cousin, Azmal ur Rahman (16, son of Azharuddin’s sister), who was sitting behind him at the time of crash had died on the spot.

The Apollo Hospital officials confirmed the death on Friday morning adding that the ventilator was taken off after a test conducted late on Thursday found he was brain dead. The doctors had removed his left kidney on Wednesday.

Ayazuddin was the youngest of Azharuddin’s two sons from his first wife Naureen. Following the footsteps of his father, the teenager was representing the State Bank of India’s junior cricket side.

Members of film fraternity used twitter as a medium to express their sorrow for Ayazuddin’s death. Riteish Deshmukh, Actor and son of MP Vilas Rao Deshmukh, tweeted:

“Deeply saddened to hear about the demise Mohd. Azharuddin’s son. Condolences to the entire family. RIP AYAJUDDIN (sic).”

While Ashish Choudhary, who lost his sister and brother in law in the 2008 Mumbai Terror Attacks, expressed his condolences:

“I can imagine the pain and grief of Azhar and his family on Ayazuddin’s loss. Life is bloody unfair at times. God bless them all. Really hate Bikes.”

Jewelery designer and a friend of Azhar, Farah Ali Khan added a word of caution for the youngsters.

“My heart goes out to Azharudin and Noureen for the demise of their son Ayaaz. May god give them strength in this moment of grief. RIP Ayaaz. The loss of a child is irreplaceable and only a parent knows that. Youngsters out here please be safe and careful for the grief is lifelong.”
