Graeme Swann, the No.1 ODI bowler

Swann's impressive performance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka has helped clinch the No.1 spot

England off-spinner Graeme Swann has soared to the No. 1 spot in the ICC world ratings following his impressive run in the one-day series against Sri Lanka which lead England to a convincing 3-2 win against them. Graeme Swann picked up 8 wickets in the bi-nation tournament.

In doing so, Swann has also become the only England bowler to rise to the top spot in the ODI ratings. He was the No.1 test bowler in the last year until South African fast bowler Dale Steyn (899 points) overtook him to become the No.1 bowler. Swann(707 points) went past former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori (701 points) in the ODI ranking table to reach there. Swann (797 points) is also No.2 in the ICC test rankings.

Steve Harmison was the other bowler who made it to the No.1 spot in the test rankings, only briefly though, in the year 2004.

The only other English bowler in the top 10 is James Anderson who is at No.3 after an impressive performance in the test series against the Lankans.

England captain Alaistair Cook has plunged into the top 50 in the ODI rankings after his prolific run-scoring in the series with an average of 74.50.

From India, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma find themselves at No.7, 8 and 9 in the test ratings respectively. Amongst the batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar has retained his No.2 spot while Virender Sehwag is at No.8.
