It wasn’t so long ago that spin wizard Harbhajan Singh was one of India’s most eligible bachelors. Now, a happily married man and father to a 1-year-old baby girl, he wants his fellow cricketers to feel the same kind of joy.
He has advocated not one, but two cricketers he has played along with to get married. While he clearly wants long-time teammate and 38-year-old Zaheer Khan to tie the knot this year, his comment on Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma will clearly raise eyebrows.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, the 36-year-old from Jalandhar said, “Of course! Virat-Anushka and all other cricketers who’re in a relationship should go ahead and marry each other soon. Though they’re the ultimate decision makers but I’ll be happy to see them settled. Zaheer Khan should get married this year itself.”
The context
Gone are the days when Indian cricketers used to be coy regarding their relationship status. Virat Kohli, the unquestioned youth icon of this generation, has led by example by making his relationship with Bollywood superstar Anushka Sharma public. Earlier, when there were just rumours spread about the relationship, any change in Kohli’s form was attributed to Anushka’s involvement in his life. But ever since he came out and stood up for her, that has stopped completely.
The details
The current generation of Indian cricketers appears more than happy to tie the knot while the previous generation, led by icons like Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan, were more reluctant. Yuvraj, especially, was publicly involved with a number of women before settling down with Hazel Keech.
This crop, however, has gone a different route altogether. Murali Vijay, Ravi Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja are all happily married.
What’s next?
Virat and Anushka’s relationship does seem to have reached a certain degree of stability. They were spotted together at Yuvraj Singh’s video while Anushka constantly features in a number of Virat’s tweets nowadays.

Harbhajan Singh is one who has never shied away from speaking his mind and this is just another instance when he has held nothing back. While we all certainly hope that Zaheer Khan does tie the knot this year, it might be a while before Virat and Anushka decide to settle down.
With that said, if the marriage does indeed happen, we can’t wait for the pictures and videos if Yuvraj’s wedding was anything to go by.
