ICC Champions Trophy 2017: 5 best batsmen of the tournament

Tamim was the third highest run-scorer of the tournament

#4 Virat Kohli

Kohli fell to Mohammad Amir in the final

There have not been many tournaments in recent history where the Indian captain has not been at the top of a ‘Best Batsmen’ list. This Champions Trophy, however, was in some ways frustrating for the flamboyant batsman. He scored 258 runs at an average of 129 and was the fifth highest scorer of the tourney.

While he took his time to get going against Pakistan in the opener, he connected quite well in the latter part of his innings and scored a 68-ball-81. A golden duck followed as India went down to Sri Lanka and made their encounter against South Africa a virtual quarter-final.

Courtesy Indian bowlers’ dominance over the Proteas, the batsmen had to chase just 192 runs in the second innings. Kohli played his part with a well crafted 76 and went into the semifinal brimming with confidence.

Another commanding performance followed against Bangladesh, where the supremely talented batsman bludgeoned the Bangladeshi bowlers to all parts of the park en route a 78-ball 96. However, Virat fell to Mohammad Amir after scoring just five runs in the final, thus ending the tournament on the lowest of lows.
