The record-crushing Virat Kohli has become the first Indian to cross 900 points in the ICC rankings, getting the highest ODI batting rankings in the last 27 years. He has now reached a rating of 909 points, the seventh highest in the history of the format.
Kohli jumped from the 18th highest spot in the rankings to the seventh highest ever, having moved to 909 from 876 points before the start of the South Africa series.
Kohli is now behind only Sir Vivian Richards, 935 (1985), Zaheer Abbas, 931 (1983), Greg Chappell 921 (1981), David Gower 919 (1983), Dean Jones 918 (1991) and Javed Miandad 910 (1987).
The Indian captain was in top form in the South Africa ODI series, garnering 558 runs in the six-match series that helped India achieve a 5-1 win over the hosts, after having lost the Tests 2-1.
He is only the second batsman after South Africa's AB de Villiers to have achieved the double of 900 points in both Tests and ODIs. His aggregate is the best ever in ODIs, since Dean Jones' tally in 1991.
