How times change, don't they? Just a few months ago in that West Indies tour of India, it looked like Kohli has finally found a number 4 he could rely on and it was Ambati Rayudu. But then he sees a little dip in form and boom, Vijay Shankar takes his place in the World Cup squad.

The 33-year-old didn't have the best time in the recent home series against Australia and he was also dropped from the last two games. His performances haven't improved in the IPL either and although IPL isn't considered as a criterion for ODI selection, form matters the most.

But still, Rayudu just had one bad series at number 4 and the selection of Shankar over him might raise questions. The latter has the highest score of 46 in ODI cricket and that canot easily be justified over a batsman whose career average in the format is 47.06.

Clearly, selectors have made a bold call in selecting Shankar over Rayudu and one can only hope it pays off.

Who do you think was unlucky to miss out on in the Indian squad? Sound off in the comments.
