ICC World XI: 5 possible replacements for Shakib Al Hasan

ICC World XI will face Windies in a Charity T20 Match on 31st May 2018. The match will be played in the historic stadium; The Lord's. The purpose of organizing this match is to raise funds to reconstruct various stadiums which were affected by the Hurricanes Irma and Maria last year. These stadiums include Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica, the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and the Carib Lumber Ball Park in St. Maarten.

Recently, Shakib Al Hasan backed out of the historic match citing personal reasons. As the ICC has confirmed that his replacement will be named, let's look onto five possible players who shall come as a replacement for Shakib in the ICC World XI Squad.

ICC World XI Squad: Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik, Mitchell McClenaghan,Hardik Pandya, Thisara Perara, Rashid Khan, Luke Ronchi, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Tamim Iqbal, Sandeep Lamichhane

Note:- Sandeep Lamichhane isn't the replacement of Shakib Al Hasan. ICC has confirmed that the replacement of Shakib Al Hasan is yet to be announced.


#1 Andrew Tye

Tye has been in a sensational form for Australia in limited overs cricket. His pace and yorkers have proved to be a threat to all the batsman. He is also currently the Purple Cap holder in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Tye has played 12 T20Is and bagged 16 wickets at a decent strike rate of 16.25. His credibility increases when we look onto his ODI Career. He has played four ODIs and bagged eight wickets at an exceptional strike rate of 4.63. He also has a five-wicket hall in his ODI Career.

Tye can be a taken as a replacement for Shakib because he will add stability to the bowling line-up of the team.

#2 Shane Watson

Watson has been one of the best all-rounders in the T20 cricket. Along with his great capabilities in bowling in the death overs, he is also known to provide a strong start to the team while opening the innings.

Watson has played 58 T20Is and scored 1462 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 145.33. Apart from this, he has also scored a hundred in the T20I.

Watson also has some impressive statistics in his IPL Career where he was a vital cog for the Chennai Super Kings in this season. He has played 114 matches in his IPL career and scored 3046 runs at a strike rate of 140.69. He also has 93 IPL wickets in his bag.

The experience of Shane Watson will definitely add some stability in the squad and his current form makes him an ideal replacement for Shakib Al Hasan.

#3 Akila Dananjaya

The Sri Lankan is known for deceiving the batsmen with his flight. His bowling during the powerplay overs of Nidahas Trophy was a treat for everyone's eyes.

Dananjaya has played 19 ODIs and bagged 21 wickets with an impressive economy of 4.98. In his test debut itself against Bangladesh, Dananjaya bagged 8 wickets and was adjudged as the man of the match.

If Dananajaya makes the cut into the squad, he may be a threat to all the batsmen looking onto the different variations he persists. His bowling abilities during the power-play overs will be a plus point which could be considered by ICC.

#4 Imran Tahir

Imran Tahir has been the most effective spinner for South Africa in the recent times. Although the South African spinners struggled in the series against India, one must not ignore his capabilities.

Tahir is currently ranked at the 8th position in the T20I rankings. He has played 36 T20I matches and bagged 57 wickets at a fantastic economy of 6.81. Tahir has been a bowler who has troubled all the world class batsmen with his googly.

Tahir also has an impressive IPL Career. He has played 32 matches and bagged 47 wickets.

#5 Andile Phehlukwayo

Phehlukwayo has proved to be a promising all-rounder for the South African team in the limited overs cricket. Phehlukwayo has played 25 ODIs and bagged 26 wickets at an impressive economy of 5.68. He has also scored 225 runs at a decent average of 32.14.

In his 4 Test matches, he has bagged 11 wickets at an exceptional economy of 3.53. He proved to be a strong hard-hitter of the ball against India in the T20I series. He has played 12 T20Is and scored runs at a decent strike rate of 129.03.

As the ICC World XI has just two full-time bowlers in their squad, Phehlukawayo can prove to be an effective replacement for Shakib as he's capable of contributing heavily with his all-rounder skills.
