India vs England 5th Test Day 4 Stats: Karun Nair joins Virender Sehwag, India record highest Test score

Indian middle-order batsman Karun Nair was the biggest talking points of the day on Monday as he became only the second Indian to score a triple hundred in Test history. The 25-year-old remained unbeaten on 303 as India posted a mammoth 759-7 declared to take a lead of 282 runs.

At the end of the fourth day, England were 12-0, still trailing by 268 runs. Here are all the numbers from the day:

1-Karun Nair on Monday broke the record for the highest individual score made by an Indian batsman against England, going past Virat Kohli, who made 235 in the previous Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

1-With his knock of 303 not out, Nair broke the record for the highest individual score made by an Indian batsman coming in at the Number 5 position, The right-hander went past VVS Laxman’s score of 200 not out that he made against Australia in Delhi in 2008.

1-The team total of 759 for 7 is now India’s highest team total in their Test history, going past the 7266 declared against Sri Lanka in 2009. It is also India’s highest team total against England, going past the 664 they made at the Oval in 2007.

3-With an unbeaten score of 303 not out, Nair is now third in the list of the highest individual score by an Indian in Test history. It is also the third highest maiden Test hundred by any batsman in Test history.

2-Nair’s 303 is also the second highest score by an Indian at the Chidambaram Stadium. Virender Sehwag holds the record, courtesy his 319 against South Africa in 2008.

2-Nair became the second Indian batsman to score a triple hundred in Test cricket after Sehwag, who has got to the mark twice.

3-Nair became only the third batsman in the history of the game to convert his maiden hundred into a triple hundred. Only Garry Sobers and Bob Simpson have achieved this feat.

4-Nair’s triple hundred is the fourth one by a batsman made while batting at Number 5. Michael Clarke, Don Bradman and Brendon McCullum are the others to make a triple hundred batting at that position.

3-Nair’s strike-rate of 79.52 is the third best by a triple centurion in Test history. Only Sehwag and Matthew Hayden have better strike-rates.

2-Nair’s triple hundred on Monday was the second one of his First-Class career. He had made one in the Ranji Trophy final against Tamil Nadu.
