India vs Sri Lanka 2017: Rating Indian players after the 2nd Test match

India asserted their supremacy over Sri Lanka in Nagpur as they crushed them by an innings and 239 runs. The Indian bowlers wiped off the Sri Lankan batting just after lunch as the visitors wilted on a pitch which had aided Indian batting for the last two days.

By all means, this was a complete match for India as several of the players who were making a comeback into the playing eleven stood out for the hosts.

We rank the different players from the Indian team in this slider. (out of 10)

Murali Vijay: 8.5

The Tamil Nadu man was making a comeback of sorts after his position at the top of the order was taken away by Shikhar Dhawan. However, Vijay looked to be in fine nick right from the word go and sent a timely reminder to the selectors and the Indian management that he is still the best bet to face the new ball when India take the guard in South Africa.

His score of 121 runs was both gritty and aesthetically pleasing!

KL Rahul: 1

Rahul has been in brilliant form over the past 15 months, but he missed out in Nagpur on a brilliant batting surface. He played a very loose stroke outside the off stump and lost his wicket.

Cheteshwar Pujara: 9

India's glue in the batting order, Pujara was once again very obdurate and convincing and his appetite for spending time at the crease and grafting for runs is only growing with every passing match.

His partnership with Murali Vijay and then with Virat Kohli effectively took the game well away from Sri Lanka. His innings of 143 might not have been pretty but it was very effective.

Virat Kohli: 10

A complete match for the captain made sure that his team never lifted their feet off their accelerator right throughout the game.

Kohli looked in control from the time he walked out to bat and only when he was dismissed for 213, did he look out of place. He scored his 5th double century and made sure his side had to bat only once in the match.

Ajinkya Rahane: 2

It has been a tough few months for India's vice-captain and runs have eluded him in home conditions. On a pitch where other batsmen made merry, Rahane went back to cut but spooned it to backward point.

However, he was solid in the slips and was secure as usual.

Rohit Sharma: 9

Another big positive for India from this match was the form of Rohit Sharma, who looked secured from the first ball and scored his third test century after a gap of four years.

Wriddhiman Saha: 7

The wicket-keeper batsman was his usual self-effacing self as he made sure that he turned over the strike to Rohit Sharma when he was nearing his century.

Also, he was solid and safe behind the stumps and looked at ease both against seam and spin. His assurance behind the stumps with the gloves will be a huge asset for India when they travel overseas.

Ravichandran Ashwin: 9

After a frugal outing in Kolkata, R Ashwin was back to doing what he does best.

He picked up eight wickets in the match and decimated Sri Lanka in the second innings, thus becoming the fastest bowler in the history of Test cricket to get to 300 wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja: 8

Much like Ashwin, Jadeja too was in his elements as he kept posing questions at the Sri Lankan batting right through the match.

On a pitch which was not conducive to spin bowling, Jadeja picked up three wickets in the first innings and a couple in the second.

Umesh Yadav: 6

Amidst all the positivity, Umesh Yadav is perhaps the only player who is not looking comfortable at the moment.

Perhaps his rhythm is missing, perhaps he has not bowled enough, whatever be the reason, he is looking a lot different from the potent weapon he was in the last home season.

He picked up just two wickets in the match and probably might have to sit out in the final Test match as Shami makes a comeback.

Ishant Sharma: 9

The lanky fast bowler made a sterling comeback to the Indian side as he picked up five wickets in the match and looked very impressive all throughout the match.

Perhaps, he has bowled his way into India's scheme of things for the overseas tour as he offers a wide variety of options to Kohli.
