India vs Sri Lanka 2017: Rating the Indian players

Rohit was good as the captain

After being trounced in the first ODI at Dharamshala, the Indian team bounced back in some style as they crushed Sri Lanka in the next two matches, thus clinching the three-match series 2-1.

This is India's eighth consecutive win in ODI series who haven't lost a bilateral series in any format in 2017.

Here in this article, we rate the Indian players.

Rohit Sharma: 8/10

The Indian captain had a disastrous start to his captaincy tenure, both as a batsman and as a leader when his side was demolished in Dharamshala.

However, he announced his resurgence in a grand style in Mohali, where he plundered 209 runs and won India the game.

In the third ODI, his captaincy was tested for the first time and he came out with flying colours as he impressed with his tactics and bowling changes.

Shikhar Dhawan: 9.5/10

Dhawan capped off his sterling run in ODIs this year with another superb century in the final ODI and sealed the chase for India with ease.

He scored 168 runs in three innings and won the Player of the Series award. His positive approach at the top of the order was instrumental in India pocketing the series.

Shreyas Iyer: 8.5/10

Shreyas Iyer
Biggest find of the series

Perhaps, the find of the series, young Shreyas Iyer's consistent form in the second and third matches sent out a positive signal to the selectors, who have been on the lookout for a solid player to bolster the middle order.

He has all the strokes to keep the runs flowing and with a sedate temperament, he could well be in for a long haul.

Dinesh Karthik: 4/10

It was not a very fruitful series for the man from Tamil Nadu as after struggling on a very tough pitch in Dharamsala, Karthik could not get to bat in Mohali and could only bat for 31 balls in the third match where he scored 26 runs.

Manish Pandey: 2/10

On a spicy Dharamshala pitch, Pandey's technique was all over the place as he did not look convincing at all.

And then, he didn't get to bat in the next two games, perhaps the selectors will give him the benefit of doubt or they might just axe him, the future is not very clear for the young man.

MS Dhoni: 8/10

MS Dhoni
Silences critics, again

Amidst all the uncertainties, amidst all the questions over his future, Dhoni continues to churn out performances at crunch moments.

When wickets were scuttling at the other end, Dhoni's 65 in Dharamshala put some respectability to India's total.

And then, he was like a bank behind the stumps and was the mentor to the young spinners in Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Hardik Pandya: 5/10

Coming after a break much more was expected from Pandya, but he could not quite drive home his importance.

His bowling lacked bite, his batting blew hot and cold, but then there is enough potential for the Indian management to stick with him.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 7.5/10

Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Another convincing performance

Perhaps the most complete bowler for India in the recent past, Bhuvneshwar was as reliable as ever with the ball, both during the initial phase and then towards the death overs.

His form will be crucial for India going to South Africa.

Kuldeep Yadav: 9/10

It was a bizarre series for the young chinaman bowler.

On a green track in Dharamsala, he did not bowl, he was then dropped in Mohali for Washington Sundar and then brought back in Vizag.

However, nothing flustered the young man as he picked up three wickets, including the wickets of Upul Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella in one over to tilt the match in India's favour.

Jasprit Bumrah: 7/10

Jasprit Bumrah
Continues his great year

India's best ODI bowler had a pretty good series as he picked up four wickets in three matches with an average of 28.50 and at an economy rate of 4.56.

Yuzvendra Chahal: 9/10

Probably the biggest gain for India over the last year has been the form and consistency of Yuzvendra Chahal, who more often than not picks up wickets and controls the middle phase of the innings.

He was the leading wicket-taker in the series with six scalps in the three matches. His average of 17.66 and economy rate of 5.30 drive home his importance in the Indian scheme of things.
