Indian bowling coach Joe Dawes’ future hangs in the balance, as he isn’t guaranteed an extension when the current contracts of the Indian coaching staff will be reviewed after the World Twenty20 in March.

The Indian coaching staffs have taken some stick for the team’s recent performances, with the bowling department bearing most of the brunt, so there is speculation that Dawes could end up paying the price.

Although, with the 2015 World Cup barely a year away, sudden changes could hamper the team’s mentality, which is indeed a major worry. According to reports, most of the BCCI representatives are “quite happy” with the way Duncan Fletcher and Trevor Penney have been handling the team despite the fact that the team has managed to win just 1 Test match away from home in the last 15.

If there is any one who needs to be worried, it has to be Dawes, as the bowling unit has rarely clicked, even at home.

According to ESPNcricinfo, a BCCI insider revealed that an Indian coach might be incorporated, instead of a bowling coach, if at all Dawes is sacked. The move will depend on the availability of “top coaches in India now”.

The insider revealed, “That wasn’t the case ten years ago, so we had to resort to foreigners. If the board agrees to appoint an Indian as assistant coach, it is possible we might see an Indian as the head coach in the future.”
