India's top performers in the West Indies tri-series

Rohit Sharma

With India ending up with another Title, here are men who stole the limelight in the recently concluded Tri series in Caribbean.

Rohit Sharma

1. Rohit Sharma:

Matches: 5 Runs: 217 Highest score: 60

Currently, Rohit Sharma as an opener looks completely different than the Rohit we saw playing in middle-order. He, along with Shikhar Dhawan, have given quite good starts on more occasions than one. His partner Shikhar Dhawan failed to continue his fine form from the Champions Trophy, but Rohit Sharma has impressed in almost all matches. The best of the lot being his composed innings in tri-series Final where the rest of the batsman struggled to stick around at the crease for long. He again showed that he had the technique and temperament to succeed in tough conditions. Though his inability to convert 40s and 50s into big scores continue to haunt him. If he can overcome this then he can be a good prospect for Indian team in the near future.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Matches: 4 Wickets: 10 Best bowling: 4/8

Bhuvneshwar Kumar continued from where he left off in the Champions Trophy. He was not picked in second match, owing to one poor outing against West Indies, but came back strongly in the remaining games to end up as the highest wicket taker in the tournament. He bowled economic spells, gave initial breakthroughs and was considered dangerous when he was bowling to left-handed batsman. He also recorded his career best figures of 4/8 against Sri Lanka. He is currently leading the Indian pace attack, even in presence of the more experienced Ishant Sharma and the quick Umesh Yadav.

Ravindra Jadeja

3. Ravindra Jadeja:

Matches: 5 Wickets: 8 Best bowling: 4/23

Jadeja may not have enjoyed success as an all-rounder, which he did in the Champions Trophy, but with the ball he was the same Jadeja that we saw in CT. With the ball, he delivered in the middle overs and kept the run rate at bay and in final against Sri Lanka, he wrapped the tail-enders.

Virat Kohli

4. Virat Kohli:

Matches: 5 Runs: 148 Highest: 102

Virat Kohli can be termed as the man for crisis situations, who will answer when his team’s call when they struggling. He scored a ton against West Indies, when the Indian team were in a must win situation. If we remember, he was the highest scorer in a low-scoring Champions Trophy final as well. He captained the side for four games and dragged them into the finals. He was aggressive in his field setting too.

M. S. Dhoni

5. M. S. Dhoni:

Matches: 2 Runs: 72 Highest: 45*

Played only two games owing to injury, which he picked up in the firstmatch against West Indies. He didn’t take the field in the match against West Indies in which India handed win to the hosts under pressure. As the stand-in skipper Virat Kohli quoted “we missed Dhoni under pressure.” But he joined the squad in the final and rescued them. Initially, he manage to restrict Sri Lanka to meagre a low total and then rescued his team with the bat. He played a match winning knock of 45* by chasing 15 runs in final over with two balls to spare. Once again proved why he is considered as the best when it comes to finishing.
