Jason Holder named new West Indies Test captain

Jason Holder scored a match-saving century against England earlier this year

In what has been a change anticipated for a while, 23-year-old Jason Holder has replaced Denesh Ramdin as captain of the West Indies in Test cricket. Holder, who has only played 8 Tests till now, will take over as captain for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in October.

Ramdin has been at the end of criticism for some time now, and Holder’s appointment is not a surprise, especially given the impressive way in which the Barbados all-rounder has carried himself and his team in the ODI format.

"He is a young man that can take our team forward," said chief selector and former Windies skipper Clive Lloyd, according to BBC Sport.

"We felt the time was right for a change and we feel he will do as well as he did when he was elevated to the position of one-day captain ahead of the World Cup.

"We expect to get new thinking and new dynamism from Jason. He is a fine young man who commands respect."

Darren Sammy remains the T20 captain. While Ramdin has been removed from the captain’s spot. he continues to be the team’s first-choice wicketkeeper.
