Karbonn Smart KPL 2015 - Players retained by franchisees for season IV

Bangalore, July 22, 2015: The enthusiasm for Karbonn Smart Karnataka Premier League 2015 is rising steadily with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) announcing a list of 12 players retained by the franchisees for the current season. Six franchisees Mysuru Warriors, Mangalore United, Belagavi Panthers, Bellary Tuskers, Hubli Tigers and Bijapur Bulls made most of the new player retention policy, retaining 2 players each for the fourth edition of KPL.

Along with the names of retained players, the KSCA announced the players list in Pool A and Pool B for the forthcoming Auction to be held on Saturday 25th July, 2015 at the KSCA. A total of 239 players with 35 in Pool A and 204 Pool B will be available for the auction block.

Finalists Belagavi Panthers held on to the experience of Karnataka skipper Vinay Kumar and Abhishek Reddy while Mangalore United retained Karun Nair and Ronit More; Hubli kept back their mainstays, opening batsman K.L Rahul and left arm seamer Arvind Sreenath. Bellary Tuskers settled on D Nischal and Devraj Patil while Bijapur Bulls retained KC Cariappa, who went straight from KPL to IPL for a whopping 2.4 crores, and top order batsman R Samarth.

Speaking about the new retention policy, which allows for each franchisee to retain two players, MR. Brijesh Patel, Hon. Secretary, KSCA said, “The decision to increase the number of players from one was taken as we feel that it is an ideal number for each team in the tournament. The teams will be constructed around these players who will form the pillars for their respective franchisees.”

During the Auction, each team will have a total salary purse of Rs 20 lakhs for the 2015 season. The retained players’ fees will remain the same as the previous edition and this amount will be deducted from the Pool A or Pool B purse (depending on which pool the player belongs). Namma Shimoga, the new outfit in the tournament this year, will have a full purse of Rs 20 lakhs.

The purse for Pool A players will be maximum of Rs. 12 lakhs and the minimum bid for a player in Pool A will be Rs. 50,000. The purse for the Pool B players will be a maximum of Rs. 8 lakhs and the minimum bid for a player will be Rs.10,000. Players not bought in Pool ‘A’ will be added to pool ‘B’ and their base price will be halved at Rs 25,000.

Players will sign a one-year contract with the franchise and each squad will have a minimum of 15 players and a maximum of 20 players, including 2 players from its catchment area.
