Lyca Kovai Kings’ R Rohit speaks about Lance Klusener

Lyca Kovai Kings’ R Rohit and Man of the Match Tarun Srinivas addressed the media after their team’s ten-run win over Madurai Super Giants in their India Cements TN Premier League game at the India Cements Limited Cricket Ground at Sankarnagar, Tirunelveli, on Friday. Here is an excerpt from the transcript.

What was in your mind when you came in to bat after the loss of two quick wickets?

Rohit: We just tried to play our roles to the tee. His (Srinivas) job was to try and get as many runs as possible and mine was to go on till the end. I couldn’t do that but then I have to thank him for it was a fantastic effort.

Tarun: We had to just take the game on after the openers gave us a good foundation. We just talked to each other and went with the flow.

Did you feel the team could have scored 200?

Rohit: I feel that if any one of us would have been present at the crease for a longer time then we could have scored more than what we eventually did. Our target was to reach 200 after the start we got.

On Lance Klusener?

Rohit: He is a very good person who helps us a lot. He just walks around and sees what we do when we bat or field. He will call us separately and tell us what to change or what we have to continue doing. Lot of minor inputs from Lance have made a difference. It may not be visible to the viewer but we know it has.

Comparison of the two games you played in?

Rohit: The Chepauk wicket is usually the slower one and this one also looked good. But the bounce wasn’t as much (as Chepauk) and the smaller boundaries made a difference.

Winning a Man of the Match award in your very first match?

Tarun: I am still nervous and don’t know how I got the award!
