?1. John Edrich (52 fours)

The former Englishman’s record of 52 fours in a Test innings is right on top. Even after more than 40 years, no other batsman till date has managed to hit 50 fours in Test cricket. This particular feat was acheived when he hit a triple ton against New Zealand and helped his side to win the Test by an innings and 187 runs.

?2. Virender Sehwag (47 fours)

This was one of the flattest decks Test cricket has ever witnessed. Pakistan declared after making 679, and India in reply almost broke the world record opening stand when Viru and his make shift opening partner Dravid, together made 410 for the first wicket before Viru got out for a mammoth 254 which came at a strike rate of above 100. The match eventually ended in a draw.

?3. Sir Don Bradman (46 fours)

It was the third Ashes Test in the year 1930 and the Don made his highest Test score in this game. Batting first, Australia made 566 all out, in which 334 came from the Don’s bat. He hit 46 fours in that innings which was the world record back then. In the end, the match ended in a tame draw.

?4. Brian Lara (45 fours)

The then 24-year-old Brian Charles Lara, broke Gary Sobers’s world record score of 365 when he made 375 at Antigua. That innings had 45 fours in it and is 4th on the list. England too made an identical first innings score which ensured that the Test was drawn.

?5. VVS Laxman (44 fours)

Perhaps the greatest Test win in Indian cricket’s history. Laxman played the most important part in this heist after India were asked to follow on. He made 281 which contained 44 hits to the fence and forged a mammoth partnership with Dravid to help India win the Test on a tense final day by 171 runs.
