In a bizarre incident, a batter broke his bat and a part of his willow hit the bowler during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 match between Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) and Nellai Royal Kings (NRK) in Coimbatore on Monday, June 9. The incident took place in the fourth over of CSG’s innings.

Emmanuel Cherian bowled a length ball, and K Aashiq tried to go over the mid-off for a big shot in the powerplay. The bat, however, hit the bottom of his bat, breaking it into two pieces. The bottom portion of the bat hit the bowler while the ball went towards the mid-off fielder in extraordinary scenes during the match. The bowler got hurt on his thigh, escaping a big injury.

K Aashiq hits a half-century as CSG beat NRK by 41 runs in TNPL 2025 match

K Aashiq starred with the bat as CSG beat NRK by 41 runs in match 6 of TNPL 2025. The southpaw scored 54 runs off 38 balls at a strike rate of 142.11 with the help of one six and seven boundaries. Skipper Aparajith, Vijay Shankar, and Swapnil Singh also impressed with the bat, chipping in with scores of 41 (29), 47* (24), and 45 (14), respectively.

V Yudhveeswaran emerged as the leading wicket-taker for NRK, finishing with figures of 3/37, while Sonu Yadav bagged two wickets. Sachin Rathi also returned with a solitary scalp.

In response, NRK managed 171/9 in 20 overs. Skipper Arun Karthik put up a fight, scoring 51 off 42 deliveries, comprising three sixes and one boundary. The top order, however, faltered like a pack of cards. Later, Muhammad Adnan Khan smashed a quickfire 48 off 27 balls, smashing four maximums and two boundaries. Like Arun, he didn’t get any support from the other end.

Abhishek Tanwar starred with the ball for CSG, returning with figures of 3/33, while Swapnil Singh and M Silambarasan scalped two wickets apiece. Meanwhile, Lokesh Raj also bagged one wicket.

Four-time TNPL champions CSG will now look for a hat-trick of wins when they face Lyca Kovai Kings in Salem on Saturday, June 14.
