Former India U19 World Cup winning captain slams brisk half-century in SFU vs LAKR MLC 2025 match [Watch]

Former India U19 World Cup-winning captain and current USA cricketer Unmukt Chand showcased his class with a half-century for the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) against the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) in the third match of the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season. The game took place on Sunday, June 15, at the Oakland Coliseum in California, USA.

Chasing a tough target of 220, the Knight Riders lost Alex Hales early for just six runs, bringing Unmukt Chand to the crease at number three. Andre Fletcher soon followed, dismissed for 19 runs. Unmukt then built a quick 46-run partnership off 24 balls with Nitish Kumar (18) for the third wicket.

He later formed a 33-run partnership with Matthew Tromp, further stabilizing the innings. Chand played a valuable knock, scoring 53 off 32 deliveries, which included four fours and as many sixes.

Meanwhile, Tromp scored 41 off 31 balls, while Andre Russell fell for a two-ball duck. Later in the innings, skipper Sunil Narine chipped in with a quickfire 27 off 13 deliveries, but it wasn’t enough as LAKR were bowled out for 187 in 19.5 overs, falling short by 32 runs. Xavier Bartlett and Haris Rauf were the stars with the ball for the San Francisco Unicorns, picking up four wickets each.

Jake Fraser-McGurk and Finn Allen shine with fifties for SFU in MLC 2025

Earlier in the game, after being put in to bat, the San Francisco Unicorns lost Tim Seifert early for just five runs. However, Finn Allen and Jake Fraser-McGurk steadied the innings, putting together a brilliant 121-run stand off just 55 balls.

Allen smashed 52 off 27 deliveries, hitting five fours and four sixes, while Fraser-McGurk excelled with a blistering 88 off 38 balls, featuring two fours and an impressive 11 sixes.

Later, Cooper Connolly remained unbeaten on 20 off 18 balls, and Haris Rauf contributed a quick 16* off seven deliveries, helping SFU post a formidable 219/8 in their 20 overs. Shadley van Schalkwyk stood out among the bowlers for LAKR, taking three wickets.
