Former England captain Michael Vaughan has taken a jibe at the Pakistan cricket team following a stunning loss to Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup clash in Chennai.

Vaughan trolled them, stating that Pakistan might have lost as 'Dil Dil Pakistan' wasn't being played in Chennai.

After the seven-wicket defeat to India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur criticized the venue for the overwhelming support for the hosts and hardly any for the visitors.

As a result, 48-year-old Vaughan sarcastically said Rohit Sharma had asked the DJ then not to play 'Dil Dil Pakistan'.

Following their 3rd consecutive loss, Vaughan wrote:

"I presume ‘Dil Dil’ Pakistan wasn’t played in Chennai today."

Despite setting a competitive 283 by Pakistan, Afghanistan chased it down in a canter with 8 wickets to spare. Openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz set up the win with a 130-run stand.

The Men in Green applied pressure in phases but managed to eke out only two wickets. It is also Afghanistan's first ODI win over Pakistan.

"We are not playing good cricket" - Pakistan captain's honest assessment

Following the eight-wicket loss, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam lamented the lack of wickets in the middle overs and felt spinners didn't bowl consistently.

He said at the post-match presentation:

"We had a good total, but in bowling, we were not up to the mark because we weren't taking wickets in middle overs. In a World Cup, if you're not good even in one department, you lose. All credit to Afghanistan. We are not playing good cricket, especially in bowling and fielding. The pitch was helping the spinners even in the second innings. There was no pressure on their batsmen."

It was Babar's 74 that set up a competitive total on the board. With three losses in five matches, the road to reaching the semi-finals looks increasingly difficult. The 1992 World Cup winners will next play South Africa on Friday in Chennai.
