Australia registered a thumping 309-run victory against the Netherlands in the 24th match of the 2023 World Cup on Wednesday (October 25) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. It is the biggest victory, in terms of margin of runs, in ODI World Cup history.

Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first in the contest. They notched up a mammoth total of 399/8 in 50 overs on the back of another strong performance from their batting line-up.

Opener David Warner (104) hit his second consecutive century in the tournament to set up the platform. Steven Smith (71) and Marnus Labuschagne (62) chipped in with half-centuries to support Warner. Glenn Maxwell then went berserk in the final 10 overs and provided a massive finish with his 40-ball century - the fastest in ODI World Cups.

The Netherlands surrendered meekly with the bat as they were bundled out for 90 runs in 21 overs. Adam Zampa picked up four wickets in just three overs, while Mitchell Marsh scalped two wickets for Australia in the bowling department.

"It was a complete game for us"- Australia captain Pat Cummins after the victory against Netherlands

At the post-match presentation, Australian captain Pat Cummins reflected on the win and said:

"It was a complete game for us. Put on 400, couldn't be more happier. Me and Maxwell put on 100, would like to think we'd contributed equally (chuckles). You've got no options as a bowler when the hitting is as clean as that. We are starting to play to our potential and play in the style we talk about."

Cummins continued:

"We had another good batting powerplay. Wickets in the powerplay are what we are looking for as a unit. We've bowled quite well but without a lot of luck. Prepped as good as we can be. (On the upcoming game against New Zealand) They're a good side, they've played in Dharamsala before. It's a big game, it's a World Cup."
