Somerset batter Tom Banton was ecstatic after his team's thrilling win in the County Championship Division One match against Surrey on Thursday, September 12. Despite nursing an ankle injury, Banton walked out to the field on crutches and jumped as his teammates celebrated a famous win.
Surrey were at 95/3 in a run-chase of 221 with around 20 overs of play remaining on the final day of the County Championship match against Somerset. A draw seemed to be the probable result, but Jack Leach and Archie Vaughan had other plans.
The two spinners bagged seven wickets in the space of 18 overs to bowl Surrey out for 109 and win the match by 111 runs. After Leach dismissed number 11 batter Daniel Worrall, the entire Somerset camp celebrated the win. Tom Banton joined the celebrations on crutches. You can watch the video here:
Banton could not field due to his injury, but he played a major role in Somerset's win. In the first innings of the match, Banton smacked a brilliant 172-ball 132 to help his side post a 317-run total on the board.

Banton twisted his ankle during a warm-up football session on Wednesday in the middle of the match between Surrey and Somerset. Still, he came out to bat with a runner and scored 46 runs off 65 balls at number 11 in the second innings. His team posted a second-innings total of 224 runs and set Surrey a 221-run target.
Somerset fans will hope that the wicketkeeper batter regains full fitness before the finals day of T20 Blast on Saturday.
Somerset are the defending champions, and they will play against Surrey in the first semifinal. Banton is the team's leading run-scorer with 515 runs to his name.
